URBAN REGENERATION AND CONSERVATION

Location: Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site, United Kingdom.

Client : Amber Valley District Council

Collaboration : Department of Environment (UK), Dartington Trust (UK)

Prior to UL foundation (at Directorship level) we played a key role in complementing the status of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site (WHS), leading a series of conservation studies in support of Amber Valley District, one of two key local authorities within the WHS. The core objective of these studies was to protect industrial heritage and to lay the foundations for subsequent investment and regeneration. Outputs included:
(i) the designation of a series of new conservation areas in Belper Town and the industrial villages, Crich, Holloway and Milford;
(ii) designation of buildings of architectural and historic interest; and
(iii) promotion of building and public realm restoration.
